More Astronaut Man April 26, 2010 at 3:35 am

Yesterday we worked on creating the Astronaut Man characters ALL DAY. It’s awesome seeing our vision come to life, and we hope you are going to enjoy our creation. Our Astronaut Man, Wally, is almost almost finished! All he needs is a little bit more paint, and some latex on his hands and he will be good to go. Nic made his clothes out of an old beanie and jeans, came out rad! Genovieve is coming along, but still needs a lot of work. Check out Day 4’s pictures of the process and imagine us rockin’ to the likes of Wilco, Them Crooked Vultures, and The Beatles.

Look mom, I finally used that clay you gave me for christmas 10 years ago! April 24, 2010 at 9:37 pm

Yeah that’s right, we’re making clay people! We are currently in process of making a stop motion music video for the song, Astronaut Man, which will be featured in our upcoming album. This video is going to be rad and we are having a lot of fun making it. So far we are only in the early stages of creation, but it is turning out awesome. Wally and Genovieve are almost done; Nic’s putting the finishing touches on their armatures and up next is painting and costumes. Check out our first stop motion clips haha! Excuse the horrible quality of the videos, photobucket can only do so much.

Here are some pics of the process thus far:

Why do Venues in LA make you PAY to PLAY??? March 19, 2010 at 2:52 pm

You know 8 years ago I was playing pubs and cafes to maybe 5 people and I was happy to do it. I didnt care about getting paid or getting famous. I was just in love with creating music that maybe a handful of people appreciated and enjoyed. Then when I move to LA roughly 7 years ago it was the same thing. The only difference is now money became more of an issue. People had to pay to come out and see me play and now the artist has o pay the venue to play his or her music. I know that I may sound naive or maybe too passionate about the music but I don’t do music for the money. However I understand that I am doing this to one day make a living and support myself financially on the music I create.

I just find it very difficult to create a name for myself when I dont have the platform to do so. Because how can I make a name for myself if I cant afford to pay the venues to play at? And I know that myspace is a great tool to get your name out there. But I don’t want to be a myspace band that just adds a bunch of people and never performs a show in their career. But how can I play a show when the venues expect you to pay them to play. I mean the bands hardly ever get the chance to see that money. Most of the time the amount of people you bring to your show doesn’t matter cause the venue takes the money the people pay at the door and the band never sees any of that. And everyone in LA has their own agenda so its hard to get a good crowd to show up all the time. And I understand that. But its hard enough to take the time out of your busy work life to write music and create to let alone find time to promote your shows and guarantee people to come out to see you play. I feel like I am rambling on. I will not let this Show @ The Guitar Merchant that was cancelled deter me from keeping this music project going or playing shows I just think it sucks how music is all about money. I guess I am just going to have to get use to it and start treating this more as a business.

Thanks for listening to me rant!

Any ideas on which song we should go with???

We were leaning toward “She’s A Thief” but we want to get the opinion of our fans as well.
So let us know what you think.

Band Practice @ Ricks! September 25, 2009 at 4:22 pm

Hey there friends,

So we have some latest news on the band and what not so I hope you have time to read a long blog this afteroon or evening, or whenever you guys have time to read this

The first thing I would like to talk about is the band name. As you all know we have been around since 2004. What started out as a fun side project eventually became something much bigger thanks to all the support of our fans and our friends. In 2005 we released our first record on iTunes under our band name StarryEYES. And in 2006 we file for a DBA with intent to use our band name and brand it for use in marketing and publication purposes. We did not have the money however to pay for a registered trademark with the United States Trademark and Patent Office. But we recently went online to try and register it since we have been around for about 5 years now and we now know we are very serious about the band and arent going anywhere. However in 2008 a gentleman by the name of Alex Hebert paid to have the name “The Starry Eyes” a registered trademark under his name. He does own the registered trademark to “The Starry Eyes”. And we are affraid people might get his music project confused with our music project. Even though the way he spells his project name is quite different from ours. We are both doing music and entertainment along with publication radio broadcast. So the names might get people confused. Then again maybe not because we branded our name differently in the way the logo looks. The way it is spelled and all. But we are affraid that if we put up the 800 dollars to register our band name we might get declined and be out that money. He doesnt have a band or any music up on the internet and we already have 2 albums up all over the net since 2005. We dont want to have to go through the agony of having to pull our music down and then put it all back up under a new band name. Not to mention all the merchandise we spent thousands of dollars on. Alex if you by chance read this could we work out a deal where maybe we paid you a grand to transfer the name to us and then you would have money to register a new band name. I know that isnt a lot of money but it is to us. We dont know where we will come up with that money but we will find a way. I think that would be very kind of you to do that for us if you can find it in your heart to do so.

Aside from that everything is going great with the band. We have a lot of shows coming up but we are not booking anymore after the end of October to figure out this whole band name crisis we are in. We are attaching some recent pictures we took of or last band practice at Rick’s house in Glendale. Sorry if they arent the best quality. Nic’s camera got dropped and the flash doesn’t work anymore. :-(If anyone has a camera they want to donate to us we take donations. haha
We love you. Thanks for reading.

NEWS ON THE NEW ALBUM May 22, 2009 at 2:34 pm

Here is the breakdown on the new album.
Its hard to believe that its already the middle of 2009 and the 3rd album isnt finished yet. I am very sorry that it is coming so slow. But I have been having financial issues that have been preventing me from doing the necessary things to get the album finished. I have also been spending a lot of free time booking the band and promoting as much as I can with as little means as I can allow. All of this has been getting in the way of writing new material. But it is still in the works and I promise it will be finished by 2010 and I am sure its going to be well worth the wait. Just so I can give you an idea what it sounds like, imagine a happier sounding Depeche Mode with a touch of Acoustic/Electric groove. I am still working on the title of the album.

And I am leaning towards naming it Download Passenger. I got that title sitting in traffic on the 101. It was bumper to bumper and all I wanted to do was get into the car pool lane to go faster. But I was the only one in the car. So you can imagine what I was thinking when I came up with that. It actually relates to a lot of the ideas on the new album though so I have really been warming up to that name.

What do you guys think?

In other news I am coming out with another shirt design expected to hit in the month of August. So be ready for that. I think you all will dig the new shirt designs.

I must ask you again, if you really believe in our music project please keep spreading the word. And please keep coming out to our shows and supporting us. We wont forget the people who helped us become successful musicians. Thank you everyone and godbless.
I will catch you next time. -Cheers,

-Nic

Nic Weethee Publishing !!!! April 24, 2009 at 2:56 pm

Hello Friends,

I have been in the process of getting my publishing company started. It wasn’t an easy process but its done and finalized.

Nic Weethee Publishing was the name I went with. I am working on lots of new music. I have decided to stop being a serious writer only and start doing stuff that was fun. I am writing a lot of Hip Hop and Electronic music. I am still working on the 3rd album which will be folk and kind of country sounding. I am going to be having a lot of featured guest appearances on that album so it will be well rounded and very different. I am very happy with how it has been sounding so far.

In more recent news I have acquired a new guitarist and bassist. And I will be glad to let you know that Matt Thompson, the man behind the drums on the second album will be re-joining the group when he comes back to the west coast for the summer. So be ready for some shows with the full band.
I just want to take this time right now to again say thank you to all the friends and fans of this music project. Thank you for sticking around and being there throughout this journey
God Bless.

Cheers,
Nic

P.S.  If you havent already gone out and bought the new album on iTunes please do so and help support the cause. <3
